Kambia
Description
Kambia is a relatively small village at the northern Chios vincinity, 48 kms by the city of Chios, rooted literally amidst cherry trees, chestnut trees and olive trees. The most characteristic sight once you get there is the Castle of Kambia, known also as Kastro of Orias or Kastro of Agia Paraskevi, which dominates at the canyon of Kambia, perched at the top of a tall vertical boulder. It is characterised as a typical medieval fort which delicately takes advantage of the natural landscape. Parts of the outer fortification are saved until today, but unfortunately not any of it's inner parts can be found. It's very likely that it contained a central building, the position of which later took over the temple of Agia Paraskevi.
Hiking through the canyon, can safely be described as an amazing optical experience thanks to the constant alternations of the scenery. The route ends down to the beach of the village.
