Karfas Beach
Description
Karfas is a seaside settlement located at the homonymous bay of the southeast Chios, 7 kms south of Chios Town. It's name points out at a dry environment, absolutely waterless. It's located at a mild hilly coast and it's popular due to it's extended shallow sandy beach. It's one of the closest to Turkey, Chios settlements.
As an extremely popular touristic resort, it can satisfy all kinds of visitor's needs. In the area one can find hotels or apartments, large variety of cafeterias, taverns and restaurants, touristic gifts and souvenir shops, mini markets, car and motorbike rental agencies and many others.
It offers a variety of nightlife spots too, whilst hotels organize interesting Greek nights, spreading an intense local atmosphere.
On your way to Karfas it's worthwhile to visit one of the 35 old watchtowers that the island hosts, the vigla of Agia Eleni ( Saint Helen ). Viglas are medieval cylidrical shaped towers that can be found alongside shores and caves all around the island, that served as terminals of timely warning against alien raids through the sea.
